How to Crop Photos for LinkedIn — Profile & Banner Guide

LinkedIn Image Specifications

  • Profile photo: 400 × 400 px (displayed as circle, 1:1)
  • Background/banner: 1584 × 396 px (4:1 ratio)
  • Company logo: 300 × 300 px (square)
  • Company cover image: 1128 × 191 px
  • Article cover image: 744 × 400 px

Profile Photo Best Practices

  • Face should take up 60% of the frame
  • Professional attire — LinkedIn is a business network
  • Plain or simple background
  • Good lighting — natural light works well

Cropping Your LinkedIn Profile Photo

  1. Use Image Crop tool, select 1:1 ratio.
  2. Center your face and shoulders in the crop box.
  3. Download at 400 × 400 px or larger (LinkedIn will scale it).

Banner/Background Image Tips

The 4:1 ratio is unusual — it's very wide and short. Keep important content in the center 70% horizontally and center 50% vertically, as LinkedIn crops this differently on mobile vs desktop. Text should be large and minimal.
