How to Crop Product Photos for E-Commerce (Amazon, Shopify)

E-Commerce Image Standards

Product photos are the most critical element in driving online sales. Poorly cropped images reduce buyer confidence and hurt conversion rates. Each platform has specific requirements.

Platform Requirements

  • Amazon: 1:1 ratio, minimum 1000 × 1000 px, white background for main image
  • Shopify: 1:1 recommended, 2048 × 2048 px for zoom feature
  • Etsy: 2000 × 2000 px, square or landscape
  • eBay: 1600 × 1600 px minimum
  • Google Shopping: 100 × 100 px minimum, 800 × 800 recommended

Best Practices for Product Crops

  • Product should fill 85–90% of the frame
  • Leave equal whitespace on all sides
  • Never crop into the product itself
  • Use consistent cropping across your entire catalog

Batch Cropping Workflow

For large catalogs, establish a consistent crop template: decide on one ratio (usually 1:1) and one set of margins, then apply the same crop to every product. This consistency builds brand trust and makes your listing pages look professional. Use the online cropper for quick, individual edits.
