Instagram Image Size Requirements
Instagram displays images differently depending on where they appear. Using the wrong dimensions leads to automatic cropping by Instagram — often cutting off important parts of your photo.
Correct Sizes for Each Format
- Square post: 1080 × 1080 px (1:1 ratio)
- Portrait post: 1080 × 1350 px (4:5 ratio) — best for mobile feed
- Landscape post: 1080 × 566 px (1.91:1 ratio)
- Story / Reel: 1080 × 1920 px (9:16 ratio)
- Profile photo: 320 × 320 px (1:1, displayed as circle)
How to Crop to Instagram Sizes
- Open Doit Connect Image Crop.
- Upload your photo.
- Select the 4:5 preset for portrait posts (recommended for maximum feed height).
- Position the crop area around your subject.
- Download and upload to Instagram.
Pro Tip: Always Shoot Slightly Wider
When taking photos, leave extra space around your subject. This gives you more flexibility when cropping later without losing important details. Portrait (4:5) crops show the most of your image on mobile feeds and are recommended for most content creators.
